This project had an additional challenge as I participated in developing the visual concept for the demo, the hive effect and skin glow, and the packshots, with the challenge of maintaining the established brand aesthetic while incorporating the new protection concept with the hive motif.<\/p>\n


I conducted research on 3D representations of viruses and bacteria and proposed using two cameras instead of just one, as in the received storyboard. Although aesthetically pleasing, the second angle emphasized the viruses and bacteria too much, so we ended up sticking with the flat angle as proposed by the storyboard, with very small viruses. Their appearance was also decided to be less realistic to avoid a technical-medical look and not draw more attention than the skin.<\/p>\n


For the hive-shaped protection effect, I proposed light effects instead of a more flat glow to avoid it looking too illustrative. In the end, they decided on a middle ground to maintain an illustrative character while adding light effects. My original proposals involved only lights passing around the cells, creating the natural hive shape effect, but to avoid the appearance of a barrier with gaps, we included small spheres that grow and spread over the cells. Additionally, during the virus impact on the cells, they dissolve, generating a small shockwave with a hexagonal shape symbolizing the protection’s effectiveness.<\/p>\n


For the skin glow, I requested rotoscoping from Bogot\u00e1 so I could create a glow effect and mask it to avoid overlap during actor interactions. My design proposal was not to use the glow this way, but the client preferred to keep it because other videos they produced already used this effect. However, I managed to convince them not to use blue on the skin, as blue under the skin removes saturation and gives an alien\/reptilian look with hive-like scales.<\/p>


The original idea for the packshot was to match exactly the environment of the family filming. I then requested photographs of the surroundings and a 360 photo sequence so I could convert it into an HDRI. Although they liked the realistic result, they opted for a more artificial, contrasted look with a cleaner background.Here is the English translation:<\/p>\n
